On first glance, "Enrique's Journey" and "Dreamers" seem like completely different books but the purpose of the books are the same; they convey the importance of relationships for immigrant families. "Enrique's Journey", written by Sonia Nazario, focuses on the story of a mother who leaves her children behind in Honduras, thinking that she could better help them with money from America. Have you ever been frustrated with your parents or parent? In the stories, Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, the both narrators have a hard time making peace with their parent. In both stories, the problems are creating tension between their family, and it’s because of the difference in points of views. Such as the daughter in Confetti Girl, she is frustrated on how the dad is not paying attention to her wants and needs. Also, how she prefers on talking about something meaningful to her than about books.

In the novellas; A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and The House on Mango Street both of the main characters have a difficult time fitting into their society. Esperanza, from The House on Mango Street, is ashamed of where she lives. Stephen, from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, does not even fit in with his family. Both novellas show that it is possible to find yourself and not fit it, and that it is okay to be different. Esperanza and Stephen have overcome the difficulty of not fitting in, finding themselves and a future, and the courage to be different.

For my individual community project, I volunteered at the MUST Ministries Donation Center located on Chastain Road in Kennesaw for ten hours. I did the first five hours on Saturday, October 24th and the other five hours on the next Saturday of the same month. Prior to arriving at the donation center, I received a PIN number to log in and out of the computer to identify when I started and ended my volunteer shift. On both days, I had the same experience and work to do. I had to wear gloves and go through the racks of clothes and make sure the articles of clothing were in the right section where they are suppose to belong.
