For health patients, cataract surgery is a quick procedure that can take less than an hour. Recovery time is a bit longer. During the surgery, the doctor replaced the damaged lens with an artificial intraocular lens. It can take some time for the brain to adjust to the new lens. Many patients report distorted or wavy vision for a short time, though most had that clear out after an hour or two.

The eyes may appear bloodshot because the surgery involved cutting some of the fine vessels on the surface of the eye. The redness should dissipate and disappear completely within three or four days. For patients who received an anesthetic injection in the eye itself, bruising in that area is possible. Like the bloodshot effect, this bruising will disappear within a few days.
