Catching Fire, book two of the Hunger Games Trilogy, is a novel about two victors, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. The author's message is about joining together to overcome the things that control us. The two victors were chosen for the previous annual hunger games, because of tribute Katniss' stunt with the poisonous berries. An act, that was supposedly an act of love, was seen as defiance towards the Capitol. This resulted in rebellion and attempted uprisings. President Snow sought to punish them by changing the Quarter Quells and sending previous victors back into the arena. This upset the victors because they were promised to never have to return to the arena. Without Katniss knowing, the victor tributes, Haymitch, and Head Gamemakers
