Kit grows angry when she sees Prudence’s mother scold and discipline her for her mistake.
She is compassionate for multiple reasons. Miss Martha took Lavinia under her wing and raised her in the big house, where Miss Martha lived. Lavinia was taught to read, which was considered a luxury for most indentured servants and slaves. Additionally, Miss Martha taught Lavinia how to be an urbane guest and hostess. She learned the proper ways of fancy white folks.

In her poem Teresa Acosta displays the quilt as a symbol for the mother's love.
This attempt to persuade her mom failed because Wangero didn't understand her mother's desire for the quilt. In paragraph 13, her mother says that she had been hanging on them for long enough and wants Maggie to get use out of them. Wangero doesn’t view it the same way and consequentially doesn't persuade her mother to give her the quilts.
Wright was in the process of stitching. They noticed the beauty of the quilt and how neat the stitching was… up to a certain point. The last piece that had been added to the quilt was poorly stitched. Mrs. Hale points to the bad stitching and says to Mrs. Peters, “Why, it looks as if she didn’t know what she was about,” and continues to tell how she believes Mrs. Wright did the piece while nervous about something (1085). Mrs. Peters then tries to fix the stitching so that no one else notices.

This means that the quilts mean heritage and remind the daughters of grand mom dee. The quilts are fought over at the end of the story because of the meaning of them. One daughter wants them for everyday use and one wants them just to have them because it means heritage to her. The mother at the end of the story agrees that they should be used for everyday use.
Catherine is a truly nice character. Catherine is just like a person I know called Samantha. She was my neighbor and she was really sensitive and protective of her

In the story “ Thank You Ma 'am ” I believe that Mrs Jones is caring because Mrs. Jones brings Roger into her house, and tries to help Roger. The most obvious why Mrs.Jones is caring is because she lets Roger into her house even when he tried to steal her purse, I know I would never just let him in my house if he tried to steal my purse I would of called the police. First of all she brings Roger to her house and then makes him dinner. I would never make a boy dinner who tried to steal my purse.
‘Maggie can’t appreciate these quilts!’ She said. ‘She’d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday use.’ … ‘But, they're priceless!’ ” (172).
These quilts are a ways of honoring her African American heritage and to be given these was very significant in their culture. For once Dee sees the historical background because of the stitching and material used, but doesn’t find any use in using them. Dee is going to try and convince her mom to let her keep the quilts, when Dee says, “Maggie can’t appreciate these quilts!” (Walker 721) and “You just will not understand. The point these quilts, these quilts!”
