Despite being a different color and different life style,many African Americans wanted a better life for them and their families,no different than the white people thought. Thousands of African Americans left the South looking for a new and better place to call home. African Americans found success out west doing such jobs as being a stagecoach ,Bass Reeves, A united States Marshal, Running a restaurant.In the 1800's,many African moved west and wanted better lives for themselves and families. They found that it was pretty difficult to live with a mixed ethnicity. Not all were slaves in that matter. A lot of African-Americans bought their freedom and got a lot of money for working jobs like the White people did. A reason why moving west was successful for the Africans was for example one Woman named Cathy Williams,which turned into William Cathy because she disguised herself as a male to join the Black Army. She was successful for two years till they found out released he.In the text it states "Cathy Williams. She changed her name to William Cathy and posed as a man when she joined the all-African American 24th Infantry in 1866. She served for two years as a buffalo soldier before she was discovered and released from the Army.This was a job that no women can do but,she had the back-bone to do what everyone should do: try. That is exactly what Williams did.She was the first African-American to join the Black Army.A reason that has been unsuccessful was one women not finding her family. Even though she did buy her freedom and bought a lot of her relatives,she never found her husband or children. She only got reunited with one of her daughters months before her
