Most people know that bullying hurts. So what kind of child would do this to others? Shouldn’t parents, teachers, and school administrators get to the root of why some kids feel the need to bully others? While there is absolutely no excuse for someone to harass, torment, and humiliate another human being, most bullies have underlying issues that lead them to this behavior. To increase their popularity or power, bullies turn their wrath on victims who are perceived as weaker than them. Although bullies may seem confident and sure of themselves, they are usually insecure and may feel inferior to others. They treat their peers like dirt as a way to make themselves feel better. And because mostly, the bullying is done within the school walls, it becomes unbearable for the victims to even set foot inside. They are more likely to feel disconnected from school and they will dislike being inside of the campus. They would have lower academic outcomes, including lower attendance and completion rates. Friendships will be ruined and its quality would become dull. Likely, they would be less well-accepted by peers, avoiding conflicts, and be socially withdrawn. They tend to display high levels of emotion that indicate vulnerability and low levels of resilience. Most specifically, they will have low self-esteem and confidence in themselves. They would feel wary or suspicious of others. And the most serious cases of bullying effects are: nightmares, trauma, depression, anxiety, feelings of loneliness and isolation. In extreme cases, they have a higher risk of suicide. They are becoming hopeless of having their voice back and to stand up to their bullies. And becoming voiceless in this cruel world leaves you invisible to others and vulnerable to what the bully dictates.
