Have you ever wondered when new machines like the cotton gin were first invented? The Industrial Revolution first began and grew in England because of its natural resources, geography, and innovations. During the start of the Industrial Revolution, (early 1800s), all new machines were being invented and slaves were now longer owned and forced to work in fields. Factory products were booming while people were working in them; including children! One reason the Industrial Revolution began in England is because of its natural resources.
By the early 1800’s the industrial revolution had began in the United States. But it did not really start until after the civil war in . When people began to move to cities to work in industries involving mines and factories instead of staying in the rural areas. There are several different ways that the industrial revolution transformed the United States of America. There was an abundance of people along the way to help and support the buildup. At the same time, there were other people that did not support the changes and the huge transformation. Before the industrial revolution, many people worked in agriculture. They would make a living working on their farms with family members.
Textile manufacturing in New England expanded and Northerners invested more capital in factories. The plantation economy expanded westward and agriculture remained the mainstay of the Southern economy. To add on, the machines to spin and weave cotton fueled the Industrial Revolution. Due to these machines, demand increased for manufactured goods and employment opportunities increased for unskilled workers. Even the steamboat helped contribute to the growth of the economy because it was crucial to transporting raw materials and finished products.
American Industrial Revolution North vs. South The American industrial revolution had many effects on the north and south in the 1800’s. While the North took advantage of the industrial process, the Southerners were still very agricultural and invested in land and slaves. Traditional commerce was made obsolete by new improvements in transportation and communication standards. This change brought back mercantilist ideas back into the economy. Northern cities started to have more powerful economy than the south, while southern cities resisted to change and still favored slave economy. It was hard not to change to new ideas as they were more efficient and made your life easier.
Something that was good about the industrial revolution was that there was more workers and people could get payed more. Things that were bad was that little kids could. That’s bad because kid get hurt for example, for kids who worked on farms would ride on horse rakes and easily fall off and get crushed. Kids would get overworked after working 12 hours a day.
