The Mexican American war is one of the most documented conflicts due to the damage and effects it caused. The battle occurred over a period of two years from the year 1846 to 1848 and is recorded as the first war United States engaged in on foreign soil. The war was triggered by various factors, although chief among them was a secret treaty that was signed in 1836 recognizing the Rio Grande as the borderline (Shi, & Tindall, 2016). The treaty was not put into consideration as the Mexicans started the war in a bid to claim Santa Anna. The other major factor that triggered the war was the Rio Grande border which was the agreed border line. Mexico, on the other hand, had another boundary line in mind with Nueces River being their boundary line.
