Causes for drug abuse

Twenty three and a half a million Americans are addicted to alcohol and drugs. That's approximately one in every ten Americans over the age of twelve – roughly equal to the entire population of Texas. Only eleven percent of those with an addiction receive treatment. But before people get addicted to a drug, they must first try a drug. The real question is, why do people start using drugs? Research methods and sociologist have found many reasons why the average person starts to use and becomes addicted. In this essay I will research three different methods. For many teenagers, peer pressure and the environment they are surrounded by are the main cause for drug use. However, psychologists believe that drug abuse is hereditary. Many of us have gone through it. Peer pressure is a mother trucker! In order to be invited to a party you must be drinking and smoking to attend. Otherwise you’re going to be looked at as a nerd. Once an individual has indulged in peer pressure, now he/she are doing the peer pressuring, like a domino effect. After using and using, the body becomes dependent on whatever substance has been being used. This creates addiction and if not stopped, one’s life could shatter. The environment that surrounds individuals has a major impact as well. For example, a group of jocks are going to try to achieve good grades so that they can continue to play on the football team. A group of pot heads, on the other hand, are going to skip class and forget about their grades. People are influenced by the other people that surround
