Feeding America is a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs that provides food and services to people each year. Together this network is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief organization. Recently, more families and individuals begin to struggle with hunger due to the cost of living increasing and income from employers not being sufficient enough to feed and take care of a family. Price and income shifts can radically impact the poor and hungry.
According to the United Nations, a child dies of hunger every ten seconds. Likewise, millions of people live in poverty and do not know when they will eat again. While the typical American throws away leftover food, children are dying across the world from starvation. To put this into perspective: By the time you have started reading, a child has died of hunger. But who is to blame?
Think of the Children in America Summer is the time when most kids enjoy their free time out of school, and for some kids, summer is the time where they’re not so lucky food-wise. Anna Quindlen, the author of the essay “School’s Out for Summer,” stated that children often were not able to receive the appropriate nutrition during summer because sometimes families do not have enough money to provide nutritious meals as they are served in school. The essay proves, with factual evidence, that, although most people tend to deny the problem, starvation occurs as well in the mighty country of America. Quindlen explained that “During the rest of the [school] year fifteen million students get free or cut-rate lunches at school... but only three million children are getting lunches though the federal summer lunch program.”

There are so many different types of people who are famished most of the day just because they are homeless or because of their race.
