African Americans were freed from slavery and with a blink of an eye they were sent back. The South were the main cause of the end of Reconstruction. Many of the problems they had caused made the North not want to do it anymore. The North may have just walked away but the South had cause for them to leave. From murdering or threatening people, not stopping the KKK, and being very racist is why the South was more at fault for killing reconstruction. Nobody had ever tried to stop the KKK so they just got stronger and stronger. It shows that the KKK got stronger by killing more people and nobody doing anything about it.(Klan Cartoon.) Nobody had stopped the KKK when they were killing everyone. “I say unto you plainly that any member of Congress who, especially from the South, does not support, advocate, and urge immediate active and through measures to put an end to these outrages… is a coward, a traitor, or a fool.” Anyone that does not want to put an end to the KKK are very foolish and should not want everyone else to get killed because of their own cowardness. The South are just letting all these innocent people die because they are afraid that they will die. “...I have very little doubt that I shall be one of the next victims.” The South and others are scared of the KKK so they do not try to help the others. Southerners do not want to get killed by the KKK.
