The Civil War was a war between the North and South of the United States. There was many causes of the Civil War. The Civil Wat, which was fought between the Union States (the North) and the Confederate (the South) was fought over the debate of slavery. The main cause of the war was slavery. The North didn’t agree with the idea of slavery unlike the South that did. The South said they were going to leave the Union because they wanted to have slavery. The reason the South wanted to have slavery was because that was the only way they lived. The South believe that if they didn’t have slavery it would destroy their economy and it would crush. It was abolished in 1865 by Abraham Lincoln. The war lasted from 1861 – 1865. It was one of the bloodiest wars in the world 644,000 people died. The war wasn’t necessary because people were fighting basically for their own state in their country. During the war the Union president Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. John Wilkes Booth was a famous actor and a Confederate sympathizer. He shot Abraham Lincoln in the back of the head. After, he jumps down of the platform in which Abraham was watching the play and sprained his knee allowing him to be caught and killed. The assassination happen in Washington D.C. This assassination made the Union very mad. Abraham’s wish was to bring both sides together back to one country. So the Union wanted to grant him his wish and they did. Civil War was resolved on May 9, 1865. General Robert E. Lee surrender to the Union in Northern Virginia. The war was very hard to resolve because the South believe in the idea of slavery very much. The “Terms of a Military Convention” was signed by both generals saying that the war was over and the Union has won. The Confederates were now a part of the Union. The hardest law that the South had to follow was the abolishment of slavery. It hurt their economy very much, but it was better for the slaves to be able to have a free
