There is division among Americans about President Obama’s recent executive order; however, this order has both positive and negative aspects. In a small way, it may boost the economy to a degree, it will prevent 5 million people being deported back to third world countries, and it will also give 5 million people a better chance of becoming United States citizens. Some of the main concerns against immigration is that the citizens of the United States will lose job availability, also many critics of the policy believe that the executive order is unconstitutional while others believe that the immigration policy simply does not need any reform. While it may create a more competitive job market, the expanded workforce is thought to help create new businesses by providing more workers. President Obama also hopes to streamline immigration processes such as work visas and the court process. By preventing the amount of time an immigrant has to wait for a work visa, the workers will be able to change jobs or be transferred more easily in order to aid their employer’s efficiency. Other changes include a white house task force on new Americans which would further the federal policy on how to handle immigration and immigrants. While many people are concerned that added workers will make the labor force more competitive for American citizens, President Obama hopes to ensure that the American labor force is regulated so that companies will not only seek out immigrants but also Americans for multiple job positions. There still are problems with immigration. While the labor force may be regulated to ensure equal opportunity employment, the increase of workers does mean that there is a lesser chance of a U.S citizen getting a job. While the Army, and other branches, are downsizing at this current time, there are also plans being made to allow illegal immigrants to serve. The Department of Defense (DOD) is planning to allow immigrants who came as children into the states to serve in the military. This new program allows only 1,500 immigrants who came into the country when they were less than 16 years old to serve; however, many people are confused about the logic behind this program when the Army is downsizing so rapidly. The Army alone is downsizing from 520,000 to 440,000. Since the program’s opening in 2012, more than 500,000 immigrants have benefited from the program. President Obama plans on extending the policy in order to allow more people to serve; however, one of the primary focuses is to give relief to those who wish to serve by making the process less difficult. While this program and others are being created, carried out and expanded, immigration, in general, is being promoted. Whether it is by programs encouraging immigrants to enter the United States, or by campaigns being led by politicians and other leaders to comfort the American people that immigration is a great idea, immigration is being promoted
