If you’ve had the privilege of not living under a rock, you most likely have heard the name William Shakespeare thrown around from time to time and if you’re even luckier, you’ve heard of his play, The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, or simply Hamlet. You at least know some of the story if you’ve seen the Disney film The Lion King. The backstabbing uncle Scar, the ghost of the great king Mufasa and finally our protagonist Simba all represent characters in the popular Danish play. While reading this play, you may begin to notice that quite a few of the characters, for the most part, seem quite insane but I’m focusing on Hamlet and his obvious case of bipolar …show more content…

There’s many types of bipolar disorder; Bipolar I disorder (manic episodes are more common than episodes of depression), Bipolar disorder II (more episodes of depression than manic episodes), Cyclothymic disorder (shorter episodes of depression, mania, and hypomania), Mixed features (having manic and depressive episodes simultaneously) and Rapid-cycling (when the patient has four or more episodes in a year). The symptoms of bipolar disorder include fatigue, loss of appetite, euphoria, psychosis, grandiosity, disturbed sleeping patterns (i.e. insomnia or hypersomnia), easily aggravated, extreme talkativeness, distractibility, engaging in high risk behaviours (shopping sprees, promiscuous activities, drunk driving, poor investments, etc.), …show more content…
