World War 1 Essay
You can see the rats running around in the trenches. The constant noise of gunfire and artillery. This is how it was for the first 3 years of world war 1. Many say it all started with the assassination of the archduke of Austria-Hungary. But there are many more reason for the start. Building up of arms, Alliances, and imperialism were all major causes of world war 1.
Imperialism was the first and biggest cause of world war 1. It started long before the war when all the big countries in Europe started taking other land far away. Like France Britain and Germany taking parts of Africa and the United States Take parts of Southeast Asia. But one country had more land and people than the rest combined and that was Britain. Britain control 12 million miles of land and had control over 400 million people. Many countries were scared they were next to get invaded and controlled. One of those countries was Germany because it was squish in between to of the most powerful countries France and Russia. Many other countries also wanted freedom of the seas. But Britain controlled most of the seas with the strongest naval army

With big Imperialistic country's many smaller country made alliances with them. Germany and Austria-Hungary join forces calling themselves the central powers while France, Britain, and Russia all join forces calling themselves the triple entente. With their alliances they were forced to help each other. So when Serbia attacked Austria Hungary and Germany and Austria-Hungary declared war in Serbia it ally Russia had to join. Along with the fight that was happening France and Britain didn't like Germany and Austria-Hungary join forces. So they feel like they had to help their ally Russia in the war making it a world war.
