Cedar Fair Entertainment Limited Partnership is a company based in Sandusky, Ohio. Cedar Fair Entertainment was found in 1983 with its headquarter Cedar Point park in Ohio. It owns eleven theme parks and three water parks in United States and Canada (“Cedar Fair Amusement Parks,” n.d.). It also operates several hospitality businesses. Cedar Fair operates many parks in different states across the United States and Canada, making it one of the largest amusement park and resort company n the world. It is also Cedar Fair’s corporate headquarter. The second oldest park Cedar Fair acquired was the Valleyfair in Shakopee, Minnesota. It was acquired in 1978 by Cedar point. After forming its business name, Cedar Fair acquired its first park Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom in 1992. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom was opened in 1884 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Dorney Park &Wildwater Kingdom was originally called the “Fish Weir and Summer Resort” founded by Solomon Dorney (“Park History Timeline,” n.d.). After a few management changes, Cedar Fair noticed the success of this park and bought it in 1992. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom has continuously growing under Cedar Fair’s ownership. Three years later Cedar Fair purchased another park from Hunt-Midwest, which is the Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1997, Cedar Fair bought Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California from the Knott family. Knott’s Berry Farm is Cedar Fair’s first and only park that operates all year round. In 2001, Cedar Fair obtained the ownership of Michigan’s Adventure from the Jourden family. The year of 2006 was huge for Cedar Fair Entertainment Company; the company acquired six parks in this year along. They are the California’s Great America in California, Canada’s Wonderland in Canada, Carowinds in Carolina, Gilroy Gardens in California, Kings Dominion in Virginia, and Kings Island in Ohio.
