“The average teenager goes on their phone about 80 times a day” (Gregoire). In other words, kids like to use their phones. Why not let the students use it in class to help them get an education. Schools suggest that cell phones will not be used responsibly and will be used for socializing. This is why most schools in the U.S. don’t permit cell phone usage in class. Cell phones in class can be quite helpful for students to get quick facts and for teachers to easily grade assignments. Although cell phones aren’t allowed in school, schools should permit students to be able to use their phones in class for educational purposes.

Both students and teachers can now find facts within seconds. This can be very useful when explaining and debating topics. “There is a multitude of dictionary applications that allow you to check the meaning of a word instantly” (Kowalski). This can help with meaning and explanation of an alien word just like the dictionary. Students can also take quizzes and tests on their mobile phone that were devised earlier by their teacher. Immediately following the student turning in the assignment, teachers can gain valuable real-time insight into the knowledge of their students and the effectiveness of their teaching. It is true that students would be able to cheat on these tests, but students can find ways to cheat on almost all other tests and quizzes too. Stricter rules for cell phones would have to be put in place by the school faculty. Using cell phones to get assignments done can help teachers and students. “Applications such as Google Maps help us to locate ourselves and are great in History and Geography classes” (Leyden). Although the majority of apps that serve as a digital Whiteboard are optimized for tablets, there are also some that can be used directly from the student’s phone and allows the student to project everything you produce. In addition to allowing students to project what they create, mobile devices make it easy to type and organize notes. Instead of reading a stodgy book students can read on E-Reader or some other reading app. Calculator apps can help with Math to solve problems. Devices can even replace heavy, paper textbooks. Calendars can also keep students on track for deadlines and assignments. With the facts and organizers at the student’s fingertips, it is easier for students to find information. Students like easier ways to do work and getting things done faster means more time learning for the students. Although schools do not allow phone usage in class, students should be able to use their cell phones for educational purposes. Students can use their phones to get assignments done, it’s cheaper for schools and students can use apps to find information faster. Since teenagers have already gone on their phone about 80 times a day why not let them use it in class. If schools take the action of permitting cell phone usage in class, they will get more students who like to learn
