How Does Cellulase Effect Applesauce By Tommy Fetta Ellie Morelli-Wolfe, Hannah Couture, Jared Gorborino Period 3 Mrs. Coppolino Friday, December 23, 2016 II. Introduction The purpose of this experiment was to see if adding an enzyme to applesauce would produce more apple juice than just adding water. From prior knowledge, an enzyme would breakdown the applesauce more than water would because enzymes increase the rate of reaction. This has an effect on the applesauce because he cell is able to build things and take things apart quickly and efficiently. There is a Lock and Key model that compares enzymes and it is an analogy to the lock and key. The substrate is the biological molecule that the enzymes would …show more content…

The independent variable in this lab was the cellulase, the dependent variable was the amount of juice that was extracted from the applesauce, and the control group was the water that was added to the applesauce. III. Materials 3 sheets of nylon panty hose 1 80 mL beakers 3 140ml beakers A handful of rubber bands Applesauce Cellulase 1 dropper 1 Plastic Stirring tool IV. Safety Do not eat any of the materials used in the experiment Do not shoot the rubber bands Tie back hair No running in lab V. Procedure Place on sheet of the panty hose tightly over a 140 mL beaker and secure it on with rubber bands. Repeat this with two more 140 mL beakers. Scoop 40 ml of applesauce into the uncovered 80 mL beaker. Use the dropper to put 15 drops of water into the applesauce. Stir the applesauce and water mixture with the plastic stirring tool vigorously for 2 minutes. Immediately scoop all applesauce on top of the panty hose on one covered beaker. Let rest for 5 minutes before scraping off applesauce gently. Record volume of apple juice in a graduated cylinder. Repeat steps 2-5 replacing the water with 15 drops of
