When you first hear the world Celtic, I’m certain Scottish and Irish is the first thing that comes to mind. I know my first initial thought is the movie Brave. That’s what I think of, when I think about the Celts. However true that is, the Celts are so much more than just The Scots, and the Irish. To get a greater understanding of the Celts we need to understand where they originated.
The first Celts were said to have originated around 13th century B.C. around the upper Danube (Mark Cartwright, Celts, www. Acient.eu/celt/). The upper Danube isn’t a town or a city, the upper Danube is the second longest river in eastern Europe. The Upper Danube starts in the Black Forest of Germany and runs down to the Black Sea (Peter Georgiev Pencev, Patricia Garland Pinka, Danube River, www.britannica.com). Many Celts lived in the country by choice. We have friends who are Irish, and they see it as their duty to take care of the land. The Celtic people saw themselves almost as a caretaker for mother earth. What I didn’t know is they often lived in the country for other reasons. The lived out in nature because the were very holistic when it came to healing. They had Druids or Shamans as we would know them, and these Druids were like modern day health coaches. These Druids made sure you at healthy and exercised regularly. If someone were to get sick they would often use trees for medicine. Aside from trees they used an array of herbs, and plants found in nature. They use a lot of huckleberries. Even today you can see huckleberries have many benefits for your immune system and your nervous system. Many of these are still found in homes today. (Gary L.
