While reading the novel 1984 there were many signs of censorship within the party and everyone involved. Media manipulation also played an important role in the everyday life for the people of Oceania in George Orwell's 1984. The thought police, telescreens, the change in language and how they speak, and vaporizing people in society are all examples of the different ways the part sensors information in the novel. The thought police in the novel are believed to read and monitor the thoughts of the people in Oceania. During the book Big Brother someone to be afraid of and hate. The actions of monitoring what people hear on the news and what they see show how Big Brother plays a significant role on the topic of censorship. In the book the main character Winston works in the ministry of truth. The main job that he has is to do would be to create a news article about the daily events. Media manipulation for this is clearly communicated within the Parties power to try and control the people. Having a two minute hate being shown on the telescreens censors what may actually be going on in the world at the time instead of what the Party shows them. Because Big Brother shows the two minute hate in the beginning of the novel being against Goldstein and creating the people to hate him shows what capabilities they have over the media. The Ministry of Truth has to deal with the media and news that the citizens watch. Even though there are people who work for this ministry and think they have a say in what goes out to the people and on the telescreens they do not. Essentially Big brother feeds information to the workers so they are writing controlled thoughts.
