Censorship in libraries is a big issue for people across the world. Censorship is defined as the suppression or prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security. Censorship is to be believed for many people against our constitution. While other believe it's a protection of student and people from harmful information. “Even today school boards, local governments, religious fanatics, and moral crusaders attempt to restrict our freedom to read”(Wachsberger). In her diary she describes life events that aren't exactly positive ones. She worries about her crush Roger thinks of her, her weight gain, her sexuallity, how school makes her feel uncomfortable, and how she can’t relate with her parents. Alices father accepts a job in a different town and she is forced to move which makes her a little happier, but when she gets there she has a harder time adjusting than she thinks. Alice experiment with drugs and sex and eventually runs away from home with her best friend being scared she will disappoint her family with her drug life. Some people praise the book for its openness on drug and sex life of teenagers, while other criticize the book saying the openness of drugs and sex in the book is showing teenagers this kind of lifestyle is right. “My motives were not as lofty as those of the critics who strongly recommend the book when it first appeared. Knowing that many parents (and teachers and librarians) would be uncomfortable with the subject matter--and the vulgar language--of the book”(Adams).
