An exotic animal is any animal that is large and raised in the wild. There is about twenty-five percent of people that die from exotic pet accidents everyday. People should not be able to keep exotic pets. The U.S.A has a law against owning exotic pets. This law saves multiple lives everyday. People should not own exotic pets because they are not responsible enough to care for the pet, they do not have the ability to house the pet, and they are not financially ready to handle this pet. In the past many people have had terrible experiences with exotic animals. For example, one woman had her face viciously clawed off (Debate). Her face was almost beyond repair. There have been many reasons to why people should not own exotic pets like public health, public safety, and animal cruelty. In 2003 exotic pets were allowed to be owned, but once there was an encounter to were a woman was almost at the point of death, the government made the law banning people from owning exotic animals. A large overgrown pet like a lion would need at least an acre of land to roam freely. The owner would probably need to fence in his entire yard, so that the animal could not escape. This animal will also need to feel like it is at home. For example, the zoo houses many exotic animals, and each individual animal has a place that makes it feel like it is at home. The difference between a zoo and a regular person is that all the people that work at the zoo are trained to take care of these animals. A regular person is just going off of what they think is the best for the pet. Different animals tend to act very differently from other, so there is no telling how you should act.
