In novels, characters often times face challenges similar to challenges in reality. In the realistic novel, Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen a character named Bryce has to get bid on by girls on stage. I can somewhat relate to this. I faced the challenge of being embarrassed on stage, similar to Bryce, but I wasn't being bid on by girls. However, I had to go on a fake date with a girl onstage. In Flipped, Bryce is challenged with the job of becoming a basket boy. Bryce has to become a basket boy, which as he says, is humiliating. “Bottom line is 20 guys get shanghaied. They have to come up with fancy picnic lunches then be humiliated in front of the whole school while girls bid on them!”(Van Draanen 170). May of last year, my teacher, Mrs. Smith, told us we were doing a play. At first, it sounded fun, then she mentioned the part of performing in front of 100+ people. That same year, we wrote our own fairytales. My groups fairytale was Cinderella with a basketball twist to it. With my luck, I was the head coach, which takes place for the prince in the original. When Mrs. Smith told us we had to act this out, I almost passed out! Why? Because there is a kiss at the end. Instead the princess, or rookie basketball player and I worked out an agreement in less than a second! We decided to only high-five at the end. Stepping on that stage was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I faced the challenge of being embarrasesd on stage, similar to Bryce, but I wasn’t being bid on by girls. Hopefully, these challenges will award us with knowledge, so we know what to do when we face new
