The study of ethics, moral conduct and decision making regarding ethical issues in nursing is a vital component of nursing education. Health care as a whole in our country is evolving, becoming more complex as the health care needs of our respective communities change and also becoming complicated. These changes include, added responsibilities, increased demand in additional training and nurses charged with furthering their education. Health organizations and schools should engage in a conscious effort to increase the number of nurses with a baccalaureate degree (BSN) to 80 percent by 2020 (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2010). IOM (2010) further recommended in their landmark, Future of Nursing report,
The purpose of the NLN is to support the education of nurses, provide testing services and grants for research, all with the purpose of achieving excellence in nursing (National League for Nursing [NLN], 2013). This organization impacts nursing by supporting nurse education in the development of nursing faculty. Additionally, they encourage research to advance nursing education through evidence-based teaching practices, and the instruction of nurses (NLN, 2013). The NLN role in Nursing Excellence is to influence public policy on nursing by providing backing for education with the expectation of excellence through growth, improvement, and understanding (NLN, 2013). This paper provides a description of the education program for nurse practitioners in the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Nursing, widely considered a leader in the discipline. It further reports the results of a study examining the roles and responsibilities of Nurse Practitioners and of the factors that, despite the impediments to progress the practice faces, motivate them to pursue development of their abilities in carrying out their duties and making “a difference.” Nurse Practitioners are proud of being a source of reference for their colleagues and believe strongly professional collaboration while acknowledging and respecting their limitations, by refusing to assume any responsibilities not delegated to nurse practitioners. The conclusions were based on the findings and logically stated. There was a very in-depth research project, particularly for a journal article.
The external one focused on the work environment while the internal one focused on the psychological effect. Nursing has been described as a moral profession with nurses as moral agents. This theory proposed 8 moral concepts used to describe moral distress through the literature. How these concepts act & interact with one another can lead to moral distress or moral intent to act. Moral distress can have an impact on three levels: (1) the patient; (2) the nurse; and (3) the organization.
Presently, various approaches have been used in continuing education, which include face-to-face lectures and case studies (Di Leonardi, 2007). Several benefits of such method have been reported as an effective approach of teaching. This includes sharing learning experience with other learners, easy way of summarising information and feedback (Lom, 2012). However, learners may not recall the topics tackled during the lectures (Pilcher, 2014). Thus, the emphasis needs to be on learning set-ups conducive to an active manner of education for adult learners, such as nurses ensuring an effective and efficient learning process (Pilcher 2014).

This assignment is a reflection of ethical dilemmas in nursing practice as a registered nurse; this paper is based on the group assignment which was completed for NURS3004. This reflection will include an explanation of the role that I portrayed in the group, the preparation that I did for the role, what could have been done differently, how this group assignment has impacted me in terms of working in a team and finally explain how this assignment will assist me in my future clinical practice as a newly registered nurse. The role that I played in the group was a patient who has a mental health disorder and I didn’t want his mother to know about the illness, as a front it seemed as though we had a close relationship. When my mother leaves the room I asked the nurse to keep my illness confidential as she does not really understand it.
A nurse must keep up to date on education and new processes in health-care, so they can provide the best care. As a nurse, you have promised to give each of your patients the best care that can possibly be given. Nurses must follow a code of ethics, to act safely, provide ethical care no matter how they feel about the patient or the reason they are in your care. Following this code of ethics shows your commitment to caring for people and society, it is a guide of ethics and standards to follow to keep everyone safe.
