In Night, Elie Wiesel describes how indifference changed his life. The main idea of this essay would be how Eliezer changed throughout the book. Eliezer at the beginning of the book was a young religious boy then as the book progresses he is hopeless. In the beginning of the book Eliezer can be described as religious. To illustrate his religious devotion Eliezer says “by day I studied Talmud and by night I would run to the synagogue …” (3). This shows that Eliezer is very religious this is clear because he studies Jewish law all day. According to the text Eliezer says “Why did I pray? Strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe?”(4). Prayer and religion to Eliezer is like life and breath, natural and involuntary. In conclusion the novel Night shows how Eliezer is religious. As the narrator continues to relate events to the reader, the reader can infer that Eliezer is starting to show hatred and hopelessness. To illustrate this he says “that was when I began to hate them, and my hatred remains our only link today.” Eliezer is beginning to change; He feels hate for the first time.
