When Rip Van Winkle returns to the town after he reawakens, he noticed the village has changed and he doesn 't spot anybody there that he knows: “The very village was altered; it was larger and more populous. The first obvious difference between the town in Rip Van Winkle is the fact that much of the old has been replaced by new. Rip notices that his house has become abandoned, and his favorite hangout spot has been replaced: “There were rows of houses which he had never seen before, and those which had been his familiar haunts had disappeared”.
