People often change as their life goes on or in short periods of time and we can see this in the play Macbeth. Macbeth changes in a number of negative ways over the course of the play often triggered by his greed and these negative changes help to show us his downfall. I will be writing about Macbeth’s transformation from a sane man to an insane man, someone who respects his king to then killing him and finally how he begins as a caring friend but changes to a brutal murderer with no feelings. All this is linked to the idea that greed leads to your downfall. Firstly I would like to describe how Macbeth changes from a soldier loyal to his king to someone who murders him in cold blood. In the beginning of the play macbeth is a soldier who has …show more content…

In the beginning he treats Banquo as any good friend and Banquo treats Macbeth the same. We can see this in the quote ““And oftentimes, to win us to our harm,The instruments of darkness tell us truths,Win us with honest trifles, to betray's in deepest consequence” this quote shows how Banquo is worried about what the witches said filling Macbeth with greed and his warning him about it. As the story progress Macbeth is more and more enveloped by his greed which ends up leading to the downfall of his friendship with Banquo. We can see it in the quote “For the plan to work perfectly, you must kill both Banquo and his son” this quote shows Macbeth ordering the murderers to assassinate Banquo and his sons. We can see that in this part of the story he is still of a healthy mind through the quote “ The thane of Cawdor lives, a prosperous gentleman, and to be king. Stands not within the prospect of belief, no more than to be Cawdor” this quote shows us that Macbeth understands how preposterous the stuff these witches are saying is and proves to us that Macbeth is sane at the beginning of the story. We can see however throughout the course of the story that he loses his mind more and more and we can see this through the bad decisions he makes and actions he takes. We can see his insanity through the quote “They have tied me to a stake. I cannot fly, but, bear like, I must fight the course” this quote shows us that even though Macbeth has his back against the wall and has no way to win that he will continue to fight. This is evidence of his insanity and through that and the other quote we can see his change from the beginning to the end of the story. I believe that this example of his change throughout is not as obvious as the other 2 but is shows a deeper image of Macbeth as he digresses. It shows greed
