The Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury is a futuristic science fiction short story about a hunter named Eckles, he visits the Time Safari, a company that sends you to the past. Eckles travels back in time with a group of three to shoot and kill a prehistoric dinosaur. Nethergrave is about a young boy named Jeremy, who plays sports, and has a group of internet friends. Later, Jeremy is faced with a decision whether to stay in the real world, or leave it for the virtual introduced by a great being. This critical response will be comparing, and contrasting both stories by making points such as, how the stories fit into the science fiction genre, the characterization between Eckles and Jeremy, the theme/message of the stories, dialogue, and writing style.
Opposers would say the theme of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is people are scared of change but things always change. Ray Bradbury writes, “A time to break down, and a time to build up.” This evidence is coming from Montag’s thoughts from him and the outsiders are heading towards the destroyed city to make it new. They want to change the way things are run and have literature be apart of everyday life instead of it being illegal like it was before. This theme doesn’t work for Fahrenheit 451 though because the cause of the change is people standing up for what they believe in.

Asleep “I don’t try to predict the future; I try to prevent it.” Ray Bradbury is an author of many works, of which include The Pedestrian, There Will Come Soft Rains, A Sound of Thunder, and The Veldt. In these texts, there is a theme of a futuristic reality where destruction is to occur which might not be that far off from our own. This is purposeful, Bradbury claims to use his writing as a message to the masses calling them to open their eyes to the direction our world is hurdling towards. These texts deal with warnings of losing touch with the natural world and other humans, devaluing life, an increase in disastrous irresponsibility, and the most prominent being the abuse of technological advancements.
The theme of Ray Bradbury's "A Sound of Thunder" is enhanced by his use of foreshadowing throughout the story. The story follows a man named Eckles on his journey to the past on a hunt for a real dinosaur. As the events in the past unfold, Eckles ultimately alters the future forever by taking a small step off the Path. The path is there to make sure the time travelers do not affect the future. Unfortunately, Eckles learns the true consequences of his actions when he returns to a changed future.
Things back in bradbury’s world was different than the world today. Some things are different, like the people today are expanding the way they are thinking and doing things in bradbury’s world. The technology and transportation is almost limited in bradbury’s and in today’s world you can have and use whatever you want in all ways. Technology is updated today 's world and in bradbury’s world it is like they have the old technology and if they do have technology it 's not that interesting or amazing like in today 's science ways. The way that their world is better or worse is complicated due to the way they think and the things they use.
In Ray Bradbury’s, “The Fog Horn”, there were many examples of symbolism used throughout the whole narrative. Symbolism is used when an object represents another making the composition of the story deeper and controversial. The theme of the story portrays how things you love will suddenly disappear. It’s based on a science fiction story because the occurrence of these references and events doesn’t exist in reality. The two protagonists named Johnny and McDunn, works in a lighthouse during the night to alert all ships in danger from the fog.
People can be good at many things, and sometimes they are the best at those things. I believe that Ray Bradbury, focused on multiple craft moves in The Veldt such as dialogue, personification, and flashbacks to show that he can be one of the best, when it comes to adding craft moves into his writing. He made the writing more interesting and described and showed the moments in different ways. He also used many different craft moves throughout the story, but I think that these three, dialogue, personification, and flashbacks are the most important, and I believe that without these craft moves the story wouldn’t have as big of an impact on the reader as it did with them. Ray Bradbury used dialogue to show how the characters are feeling at that exact moment, and is shown throughout the story to show interactions between characters in that moment in time.
