In the novel Schooled, by Gordon Korman, Capricorn Anderson changes from a
13 year old home-schooled hippie who lived in a community called Garland Farms to the most popular boy in the entire school in an unexpected way. The reason why this is a big deal is because Garland farms is a community where only hippies (Cap and his grandmother rain) live. They tend to not do anything in the outside world, except go grocery shopping. Cap is home-schooled, does not go to the outside world often and he hardly knows what anything in the outside world is. This novel took Cap from a sheltered young boy to a popular middle schooler. The way this happened was Cap’s grandmother, Rain was picking plums out of the plum tree and fell, which caused her to break her hip. Cap drove her to the hospital, but was speeding and didn't have a driver's licence. On the way there, he got pulled over by the police. This was the first time he saw a police officer. The police let him go to the hospital to see Rain. Rain had to stay in the hospital for a few months. Cap had no place to go and had to stay with a social worker,

Donnelly he has to go to C Average Middle School. When Cap got there he was shown around by Zach Powers, the most popular boy in school. At the time, Zach was very rude and clever. I know this because Zach said Cap’s clothes look like “pajamas--homemade pajamas and his shoes were something out of a social studies project”. Zach and Naomi tormented cap by a fake girl named Lorelei Lumbley that wrote him love notes that said stuff like “meet me at room B-376” and other things worse such as put cap in a different jersey when the pep rally was starting so the football team would tackle him , Zach showed Cap were his locker was. Cap was confused by many things like why people had to lock the lockers and why every period people switch classes and learn something totally different than what they were learning before that
