Adapting to new Changes
In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, the main character, Paul Fisher, who is being overshadowed by his older brother Erik’s football career makes many decisions that change him as a character. Throughout the novel Paul uncovers many secrets that he has been lied to about for his whole life. He also faces many decisions. For example, when Paul tries out for a soccer team, when Paul told on the Tangerine Middle School students, and when Paul told on Erik. The choices made by Paul, and the consequences of those choices affect the development of his character.

As Paul was standing near Erik he overheard him shout “Shut up, Castor!” (262) which made him remember that Castor was the last name of Vincent who was his brother's partner in crime back in Texas. Paul had a quick flashback and remembered that Erik had accused him of telling on Casper for the spray painting on the wall. “And I remember Erik prying my eyelids open while Vincent Castor sprayed white paint into them. They left me screaming and rolling around on the floor of the garage.” (264) Paul was infuriated when he found out the truth about his eyes. Plus, even his parent’s knew but didn’t tell him. When he tries out for the soccer team he no longer shows timidity towards the other players, he actually gains confidence. When Paul realizes what really happened to his eyes his parents felt the wrath as he was explaining to them about the whole incident. As a way for Paul to seek vengeance towards Erik, he thought that it was about time for Erik to be punished for all the agitation he is causing towards his family, so he told the Sheriff’s deputy where Erik was located.
