The relationship during the Catholic Church and theatre during the Middle Ages was surprisingly good despite its rocky past because the church was "the center of artistic and educational activities" (Wilson 106). One thing that helped to bridge the gap between the church and theatre was the development of liturgical theatre, which developed due to the strong theatrical elements located in Roman Catholic rituals. There are many events in the civil war that took place in the Western Theater, most were overshadowed by the events in the Eastern Theater. Events like The Battle of Wilson’s Creek, which was one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war or William T. Sherman’s charge took place and truly decided the outcome of whether the Union would preserve or crumble. Alas, they were overshadowed by events like the Battle of Gettysburg or the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. On August 10, 1861; The Battle of Wilson’s Creek took place, with over twenty-five hundred people died on both sides.
Although Signature Theatre has not yet produced a production of Guys and Dolls it’s one that their company could undoubtedly do so in the future. The theatre certainly has the capabilities and facilities necessary to produce a high quality version of this musical. However, this fact, although relevant is not the most important factor in deciding whether or not they would choose to produce the show. The theatre must also have a desire to chose this specific musical among the hundreds of other choices that exist. An examination of Signature Theatre’s history and currents goals helps one to see if this desire exists.
In the late 1960s and 1970s, Australian theatre experienced a radical renaissance. At a time of rapid social change and popular disenchantment with Australia's imperial ties to Britain and the US, there was plenty for young Australian playwrights to consider. A 'new wave' of writers, actors and directors founded independent theatre companies like La Mama in Melbourne and the Nimrod in Sydney, where the Australian character could be debated, defined, articulated, criticised and lampooned. It was in this context that seminal Australian playwrights like David Williamson, Jack Hibberd, John Romeril and Alex Buzo got cracking. It was the first major outpouring of new Australian drama since Federation.

The technology of today was not available during the Elizabethan Era. The entertainment choices also changed according to one’s financial status. Compared to the lower class, the wealthy had many more opportunities. Due to the lack of modern technology, the upper class of the Elizabethan Era spent their free time playing cards, hosting meals, dancing, going to festivals, participating in tournaments, hunting, and other activities.
It happened so much that theatre building became its own job. Many new kinds of theatres were being built. Some examples of new types of theatres were horseshoe theatres, which had balconies in the horseshoe shape and music halls, where the audience could come and go freely and weren 't restricted to certain showtimes. At this time the theatre was opened up to the lower classes. It was not opened to the very lowest class but to the middle class.
The era I chose to create my music video in is 1900-1919: Leading up to WWI. If I were in this time period and would want to make a video that accompanied a song, I would harness the use of stop-motion video, since it was a relatively new invention. The artist would start and stop the camera, make a very small adjustment, and then start and stop the camera again. This, when played back, captured the object moving very subtly, making it look like it was moving on its own.
The Globe Theater was a very well-known and entertaining theater where many famous plays were shown which were written by many famous writers including Shakespeare. The theater had a very unique structure, one that you would not find today. An article about the construction of the globe theater states “ The Globe theater was built in 1599 using timber from an earlier theater” (The Globe Theatre, PlayShakespeare.com). The Globe Theater was mainly built of timber, stone, and plaster.

Throughout history, theatre has changed and developed in various ways. There are cases of ancient, medieval, and Renaissance theatres. The Renaissance brought one of the most famous theatres, The Globe Theatre, and one of the biggest contributors to theatre, William Shakespeare. The performing art started out as celebrations and developed into everyday entertainment, resulting to theatr today. Theatre has been happening in the early stages of human life.
Victorian Era Entertainment The Victorian Era lasted for 64 years while Queen Victoria reigned. Entertainment was a huge part of this time because they did not have the modern technology we have today to keep them amused. The Victorians had many forms of entertainment such as sports, different pastimes, toys, and many various hobbies. There are many different eras throughout the years, but the victorian era is by far the most interesting.
To begin with, plays before Shakespeare usually portrayed characters choosing noble deeds over corrupt choices, however in contrast, Shakespeare’s characters tapped into real struggles of human living such as jealously, anger and revenge. Additionally, he founded an acting company called "The Lord Chamberlains Men" which consisted of ten male actors including himself. When the land owner closed the theater down, the company relocated it and renamed it "The Globe Theater" which soon became the hot spot in London where 3000 spectators attended. This unique theater contained painted ceilings and walls, and musicians made special effects noises, they even had a cannon that fired blanks. The original Globe Theater closed in 1642 until its reconstruction in 1997 by an American actor.
Shakespeare was a famous author and poet that wrote extremely well-known texts, such as “Romeo and Juliet” and “Hamlet.” Shakespeare lived during the Renaissance when art and science advanced and he was one of the major contributors to this historical period. “Shakespeare Influences the way we speak now” by Hephzibah Anderson, “William Shakespeare’s Impact on Theatre” by Octane, and “How Outrage Built Over a Shakespearean Depiction of Trump” by Sara Krulwich suggest that Shakespeare had a great influence on many aspects of society, such as the phrases we use, style of theater, and is a figure of inspiration to many people. Shakespeare has contributed to many well-known phrases that are still used to this day, showing his significance in history.
From Colonial Williamsburg Theatre to Broadway, theatre is ever-changing. The differences in each era of theatre are vast; the costumes, staging, acting techniques, and audiences all vary drastically from each other. The major eras and genres of American theatre include the colonial era, the Post-Revolution era, the Civil War era, Broadway, and Post-Modern—all with unique and varying aspects to them. Although the first permanent English settlement occurred at Jamestown, Virginia in 1607, according to Richard Hornby’s article The Crisis in the American History, the entire 17th century passed with no mention of theatrical productions or performances in the Colonies (Hornby).
In the Elizabethan era, theatre designs intensified the appeal of drama. During this time, there were primarily two types of theatres in Elizabethan England, public and private. Public theatres were opened and outside. Private theatres were enclosed with less people attending (Beck 318). Both types of theatres were open to anyone who could pay.
