When I was 10 years old I looked up communism, and it meant ‘a society where property was public, and everyone would be helped according to needs.’ This confused me because I had always heard of communism in a negative context. Such a society would mean that, everyone would have food, water, shelter, an education and job. This is the ideal society. So why was it talked about with disgust and horror?
In chapter 5 they are worried about killing bob it was wrong,but at the same time it was good because he did it was self defense because pony was getting drowned and now they have to have a big fight with the Socs and now since johnny killed bob they are fugitives that the police are looking for so they cut their hair and everything so they wouldn't recognize. Generally, when a person is put on the spot they suddenly feel different from those around them. Jonas experiences this type of situation first hand. Lois Lowry uses this moment to create anxious and anguished tones in chapters 7 or 8 of The Giver by utilizing specific words and phrases. The first tone Lowry creates through careful wording during the Ceremony of Twelve is anxious.
He could imagine his deception of this town “nestled in a paper landscape,” (Collins 534). This image of the speaker shows the first sign of his delusional ideas of the people in his town. Collins create a connection between the speaker’s teacher teaching life and retired life in lines five and six of the poem. Lowry’s main character, Jonas, opens his eyes and realises the ‘flaws’ in a perfect world for the first time, when receiving the forgotten memories of humanity within the Annexe room. Despite feeling the pain ‘of a broken leg,’ to ‘feeling the coldness of snow,’ he also experiences pleasurable feelings such as going down a hill in a sleigh. However, in the end he learns to embrace all these experiences and acknowledge them as ‘being important’. In his final decision, he flees his society in ‘escaping’ and ‘returning’ the ‘memories of the past’ ‘to the people of his community’ so that they can also experience what he has.
The Giver Literature essay I have read the dystopian novel “The Giver” (1993) which is written by the beloved American author Lois Lowry. “The Giver” is about a twelve-year-old boy with the name Jonas. Jonas lives a similar life as all the others in the community, until the Ceremony of Twelve when he got assigned the task as the Receiver of Memory. As The Receiver of Memory it is Jonas’ task to keep all the memories of the past so not everyone needs to keep this burden. Although Jonas received beautiful memories with a lot of colors and happiness he also felt grief, pain and anger.
Literary Analysis: The Giver Imagine a world where everything seems perfect but truly it is not as pleasant as it appears. In The Giver by Lois Lowry shows us a community in the future with no feelings at all. Jonas a twelve year old boy knows his life as it is and one evening he learns the truth about the community. Jonas set’s off into a adventure to change it all. Character,conflict,and symbolism makes the reader see thru the eyes of a twelve year old in a place of slavery disguised without anyone knowing it.

He was even chastised when he exaggerated as a Four. He said that he was starving, but he was only hungry. His teachers made sure he understood that even though it was an unintentional lie, it was still a lie because as long as he lives in their community he will never be starving so they didn’t want him to ever say anything like that again.
Passivity is the acceptance of what happens, without active response or resistance to this. Passivity is a concept that can lead to dangerous situations among a society. If passivity is the main issue amongst a society, it can feel like almost a need because a group is so suppressed in their actions and having a voice. Jonas’ Hardships Lois Lowry, the author, wrote a novel titled “The Giver” which took place in a dystopian society with ideas like climate control, sameness, and precision of language. The main character, Jonas, was selected for the assignment “The Receiver of Memory” and this assignment caused him many hardships. Throughout the story, Jonas faces many hardships related to his assignment, his friends, and the community. The theme to the story is overcoming obstacles because Jonas has to conquer many hardships throughout the novel.

To begin, the society is utopian because of sameness. In Lois Lowry 's, The Giver, Jonas is selected to be the Receiver of Memories and he comes to learn that when his community decided to go to sameness they were getting rid of color, emotion, and choice. At first the Giver tells him it 's to "protect" them from making the wrong choices. As stated in the text “Our people made that choice the choice to go to sameness”.(Lois Lowry pg 95)
