In chapter three the guests are eating dinner. They all notice a set of ten china soldiers at the center of the table, and talk about how the statues represents the nursery rhyme in all their rooms. When everyone is finished eating a voice, accuses everyone of murder, naming the date of murder and the victim. After accusing everyone the voice asks if anyone has something to say in their defense. Mrs. Rogers carrying some coffee faints. While Mr. Rogers gets some brandy, everyone searches from where the voice came from. Lombard soon finds a record player in the room next door. Mr. Rogers admits that he was the one who put on the record, because he was instructed too, but that he did not know what it was going to play. As Mrs. Rogers gains consciences,
