The Nightjohn movie was very different from the book. One reason that it was so different is because of how much the Wallers are talked about. In the book they only talk about the Wallers when slaves are being punished. In the movie, they were shown much more. The Wallers don’t have kids in the book.

When brian crashed into the lake his main goal was to find food and survive. His whole personality changed he was all about surviving the most important thing was Surviving not his Mom's Secret. In the novel Nightjohn by Gary Paulsen, many significant events occur in chapters 6, 7 and 8. To begin, Nightjohn is resting and recovering from his past punishment that took place in chapter 5, before teaching Sarny the letter h. Nightjohn then begins to plan his escape from the plantation, so he makes shoes, and eventually he gets away clean and uncaught. Sarny already knows A-J in the alphabet, and then she is forced to become a breeder, which makes her very upset. Soon after this terrible event’s Nightjohn decided to come back to the plantation to get Sarny and notify her that they would begin to go to school together.
In the beginning of the memoir night is less prominent. Also in the beginning of the memoir I had the feeling that he set the mood at dusk. As the book progresses the tone get darker as the references about being in the dark and night become more frequent. Therefore the book slowly slips from dusk to dark to night and then at the end the sun begins to rise but the carnage caused by the monsters of the night is still there. I also feel that night refers to not only his time in the concentration camps but also the officials and those who never spoke.
The tone of chapter 11 in John Steinbeck's, “The Grapes of Wrath,” is sympathetic, sad and hopeless. His word choice and syntax show how the sad houses were left to decay in the weather. His use of descriptive words paints a picture in the reader's mind. As each paragraph unfolds, new details come to life and adds to the imagery. While it may seem unimportant, this intercalary chapter shows how the effects of the great depression affected common households.
Night mainly contains similes, metaphors and hyperbole. First, the simile that most stood out to me was “He had some seven hundred prisoners under his command, and they all loved him like a brother”(Wiesel,63). This simile, in a way, compares the officer to the other officers because it shows he treats his prisoners better. It also says that “Nobody had ever endured a blow or even an insult from him”(Wiesel, 63). So we know that he cares enough about those people not to hurt or insult them voluntarily.
Night John was a story about the lives of slaves. It is all about a little girl named Sarny, and another slave they call Night John. Night John was a slave that was pulled to the farm by a rope around the neck. The first night he was there, he needed tobacco. Sarny had some wrapped up in her pocket from that morning.
Nightjohn Comparetive Essay Nightjohn was writen in 1993 by Gary Paulsen. Nightjohn was put on shelves in 1995 and has since been made into a movie. Nightjohn takes place during the time of slaves. Paulsen used real slaves interviews to write his fictional one. Some that he could have used was Ucle Billy McCrea and Walter Callloway.

Ultimately, after Nightjohn is punished for coaching Sarny, he runs away, however, later he returns to complete coaching Sarny. Sarny failed to accept the fact that she was a slave or the unfairness in opposition to her prevent her from learning.
For my book talk I have chosen to read “Martin’s Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” by Doreen Rappaport. Doreen Rappaport has written several children’s and young adult books. She is famous for writing books that shine light into the lives of individuals and scenarios that have left an impact on this world (Rappaport, 2012). While Rappaport is highly known for “Martin’s Big Words” she is also known for writing “Abe’s Honest Words”, “Jack’s Path of Courage”, and “Fredrick’s Journey Coming Out”.
In The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, the chapters alternate between two perspectives of a story. One chapter focuses on the tenants as a whole, while the other chapter focuses specifically of a family of tenants, the Joads, and their journey to California. Chapter 5 is the former and Steinbeck does an excellent job of omniscient third person point of view to describe the situation. Chapter 5’s main idea is to set the conflict and let the readers make connections between Steinbeck’s alternating chapters with foreshadowing. Steinbeck is effectual in letting readers make connections both to the world and the text itself with the use of exposition, and symbolism.
With this ability Christians are able to be proud humans as God’s greatest creation, and at the same time be ashamed for their sins they commit against him. People will choose to mock Christianity because of this, but they just end up contradicting themselves. They will say that the Christian’s outlook on the world is to rosy or that it is to gloomy. This is where Chesterton’s extreme paradoxical view of the world really starts to show. He believes all of nature follows in a paradox format and what Christianity does best is embrace it.
Why is the book called “Night”? “Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, that turned my life into one long night seven times sealed. ”(p. 34) Never shall I forget that smoke.(p. 34) That night, the soup tasted of corpses.
