Summary

In order to improve the distinctive facets of how therapists support individuals, McMinn used psychology, theology and spiritually. McMinn (2011, p. 351) believed that it is very vital for therapists to be fervent and flexible much more with their personal piety and practices because these may affect the process and outcome of counseling. In Chapter 1, McMinn (2011, p. 293) emphasized about how Christian counselors face professional and personal challenges in the interdisciplinary integration. Chapter 2 talks about the complexity of Christian counseling because its goals are multifaceted. Specifically, Chapter 3 deals with prayer—its effect and its use in counseling. McMinn (2016, p. 1301) asserted that counselors for counselors to be successful, they have to recognize the appropriate interval in applying prayer in the course of counseling. Chapter 4 talks about the Scripture. McMinn (2016, p. 1907) argued that the Scripture has been used by some authors as a foundation in developing both strategies and techniques and integrate them in the models of psychotherapy. In Chapter 5, McMinn (2016, p. 2497) talked about the role of sin in psychopathology. For some writers, emotional disturbance exists because of sin. Despite this, counselors should not judge their client. Instead, the former should encourage and restore the latter. Chapter 6 deals with confession. To McMinn (2016, p. 3214), Christian counselors should carefully think about the confessions aspects of counseling and their implication. In Chapter 7, McMinn (2016, p. 3938) emphasized the difference between forgiving and excusing. The concepts from this book that I will use as a render human services through counseling are the McMinn's core foundations: prayer, Scripture, sin, confession, forgiveness and redemption. I will apply prayer in my therapy sessions so that it can enhance the spiritual growth of the person I am trying to help and fill him with a feeling of hope. I will also use the Word of God in order to boost my client's emotional and mental condition. Further, it is important that I have a comprehension of sin and when in the course of counseling sin is discovered, I have to use the issue not to judge my client but instead, encourage and restore him by telling him that God is willing to offer second chances. I believe that when a person comes to the point of acknowledging his sin, it is my duty to lovingly expose him to God's mercy. With this, I am able to guide him to have a sense of self and help him heal in the process. But in applying these concepts, I should be cautious not to impose my values on my clients. Further, I must know when to use and not to use these concepts in order to make my counseling more appropriate and
