Her green eyes were visible as Jonas sat in the bitterly cold snow with Gabriel nuzzled in his chest.
Brenton Tremayne, lead singer for the heavy metal band Vizio and his bandmates return to New Orleans after a two year tour of Europe. Jonas Kerry, the member of the pop group The Kerrys accidently bumps into Brenton as he runs out of a restaurant crying. Brenton later learns that Jonas had just caught his lover cheating on him in the dining room. Brenton has always been a fan of The Kerrys and had a secret crush on Jonas. The next day Brenton learns that Jonas is in the hospital, apparently from suffering an asthma attack.
Imagine living in a world with no freedom, choice, individuality, and color. Would you want to live in a world like this? Most of you would have said no, but a boy named Jonas has no choice, but to adhere to his community’s rules. In the book and the movie, “The Giver”, by Louis Lowery, Jonas finds it difficult to accept his community’s way of life. However, after he becomes the receiver of memory, he challenges the community after discovering what the world used to be like before sameness.
The text states that when Jonas was observed during his child years, they watched everything that he had done. Also, Jonas took an apple because he was starting to see its true color, the entercom came on and announced about Jonas taking food out of the designated eating areas. The community’s citizens is always being watched. Surveillance is major thing among a dystopian community, this fact pushes the idea that Jonas lives in a dystopian community. Being able to see the colors of people’s skin,hair,and clothing allows us to create opinions and feel emotions.
The ending of Lowry 's novel, The Giver, seems rather ambiguous. Before reading the author 's Newbery Medal acceptance speech, I thought of two possible interpretations. The first and also the one that I like the least was that Jonas and Gabriel had finally come to Elsewhere, but they died before they could be helped. After all that they had been through, they finally had their goal within reach. But they froze to death dreaming of warmth and love that they had never been able to obtain, still hoping beyond hope that they might reach the end.
He hoped that maybe, just maybe, his vision would return. He hoped that his brother did not have the same fate. Except the routine changed. This time he was pulled up by a hand and dragged outside, he would feel the light breeze and the warm sunlight on exposed skin.
In the story when Jonas is escaping from the community with his baby brother Gabe, he is: ¨Using his final strength, and special knowledge that was deep inside him, Jonas found the sled that was waiting for them at the top of the hill.¨(178). This displays Jonas finally living his dream of physically riding a sled. Another way that Jonas living his dreams shows that a sled symbolizes freedom also when he is escaping from the community, he feels like he is about to reach his final destination: ¨… an incision: that seemed to lead to the final destination, the place that he had always felt was waiting, the elsewhere that held their future and their past.¨(178). This clearly illustrates, Jonas living his dreams of riding a sled and going to elsewhere shows that he finally reaching freedom. Based on these examples Jonas lives his dream of going to elsewhere and finally gets freedom on a
Jonas’s mother awoke from her deep slumber and watched as a bright, warm, inflamed color appeared from behind the scattered trees surrounding the various dwellings. Jonas’s shook her head side to side vigorously, dumbfounded and in awe of what appeared to her, even though it was for a split second. She blinked her eyes with pressure and then opened them again. At first, her perception of the outside was blurry as it focused in. Gone.
Literary Analysis: The Giver Imagine a world where everything seems perfect but truly it is not as pleasant as it appears. In The Giver by Lois Lowry shows us a community in the future with no feelings at all. Jonas a twelve year old boy knows his life as it is and one evening he learns the truth about the community. Jonas set’s off into a adventure to change it all. Character,conflict,and symbolism makes the reader see thru the eyes of a twelve year old in a place of slavery disguised without anyone knowing it.
Hence, aside from the colors and camera movements, the close up shots of Jonas also enable viewers to distinguish the two worlds and get a hint on Jonas’ characteristics even before he received the
The Giver has, so far, has the characters: Jonas, Lily, Asher, Jonah’s Father, Jonah’s Mother, and the Elders. Jonah is a nice kid, but is scared of the future. Lily is energetic, fun, and chatty. Asher, from what I know, is a troublemaker, and a class clown. Jonah’s Father is understanding and compassionate about newchilds.
