Allied Old English is faced with the problem of having to pay slotting allowances of approximately $250,000 to obtain supermarket shelf space for Sorrell Ridge in order to expand into the California market. Under this introductory marketing plan, Sorrell Ridge would have to distribute 2 million 50 cents off coupons through inserts in LA newspapers and launch a new product, boysenberry conserve. In return, Bromar would be committed to securing distribution in stores for 90% grocery volume within three months of introduction. Allied desired to be the first to enter the California market with an all-fruit product line ahead of its competitors J.M. Smucker and Polaner.
Them being all alone on a deserted island was like war. The crash left them stranded and alone. They had to hunt, and use there resources on the island to survive. The character Jack is a good example of a dictatorship. He was very obvious in his actions, and the most of the boys didn’t agree with what he did throughout this book.
Imagine being stuck on an island, with no supervision, regulation or authority. Now imagie being forced into this type if situation as a young child. The human desire for power and supremacy is so evil that it was able to corrupt boys as young as 8 years old. Normal boys turned to savages because of an island. In lord of the flies a group of boys were stranded on a deserted island because their plane crashed.
In the movie Simon Birch, we learn many aspects from the main character relating to our SPIES unit. The Main character Simon Birch was born the smallest baby of Grapeville in recorded history. When he was born, the doctors believed Simon would only be alive for days or a weeks at maximum, because of a undersized heart. A new patient by the name of Randle McMurphy was committed and something definitely is not right with him. He came in acting like he owned the place. A big part of me thinks he is not even supposed to be here. He seems like a guy who just wondered in off the streets. He is stressing all of us patients out and I cannot say anything because people think I am deaf.
They want to be rescued, as they delegate tasks at first, however, the story unfolds in a way that shows the savage and iniquitous side of humans as the boys become less civilized. They become less logical, and the little ones start to think there is a beast on the island, which causes them to kill their friend, Simon, thinking he was the beast. They are constantly stressed out and their behaviors change as the story progresses.
One child, Ralph Davidson, provided a vivid account of what happened on the island. He states that when they first crashed, they elected him as chief. As time progressed, Jack created his own tribe which was centered on hunting and killing pigs on the island. This is most likely why Jack Simmons is having the most difficult time adapting back to the normality of life. Even though these boys were only there for about a month, it is a time that none of the remaining children will ever forget.
Even though Simon warns them about the evil inside them, their actions still reflect their inherently bad human nature. As the time on the island goes by, the boys kill Simon and Piggy, along with a mother pig, and a well-timed rescue is all that prevents Ralph’s death. Even if people can act good, there is still greed, selfishness, and evil within everyone. It is only through the influence of civil society that the worst of human nature is kept in
The want for power strengthens and his hunger increases, but what he was unaware of was the fact that he was destroying his own mind. He was brainwashed by his surroundings to think that in that situation, it was acceptable. Jack’s evilness has officially broken everyone's norms on the island. These young boys have been exposed to the wild and this has destroyed the minds’ of these kids and has turned the kids into
Franz Schubert is a 31-year old Austrian composer who has been recently diagnosed with typhoid fever and a stage of syphilis. Schubert first began the battle with his illness when he started to suffer from headaches and skin rashes. A while later, he began losing his hair in small patches. These symptoms are very similar to symptoms for mercury poisoning, which is a common treatment for syphilis. It is possible that while Schubert was being treated for syphilis, he acquired mercury poisoning.
The boys no longer had adults in their lives, and because of this void, they had to become responsible. They attempted to create rules, shelters, and a way off the island. They attempted to provide for one another, and eventually began to act a little like adults. “…The ground was hardened by an accustomed tread and as Jack rose to his full height he heard something moving on it.
“Now that's how you drink a really cold coke.” (Okay for Now page 29) Many quotes from Lil Spicer, Doug's best friend, continue to inspire and teach many things to lots of people. This quote, from Okay for Now wrought by Gary Schmidt, represents that relationships can start at any time over many things. According to the book, many times relationships with people help Doug and many other characters.
As the novel develops, the boys are left to their own devices and morals to survive on the island. Golding implies that when this happens, people naturally revert to cruelty, savagery and a human evil that he believes is in everyone. When Jack kills the mother pig, he is in great triumph over outwitting a living thing. This shows that he has become a savage through his time on the island, and his inner evil has taken over him. It also shows that Jack has become more violent over time, as if killing pigs is normal to him.
Everyone, “even the tiny kids”, follow Jack without questioning his reasons for the orders. The people on the island lost their own sense of identity and instead they follow Jack and his behaviors. This passage from the novel proves that when people join a group or a mob, they lose their identity and follow the group's actions instead of their own. In the passage, all the boys on the island are following Jack and are forgetting about their own identity. The mob does whatever without even considering each individual’s
Character traits help shape a person into what they are, there are ways to change them and become a better person.
