Character Analysis: Matched By Ally Condie

When I was little about 4or 5 year ago I had lost the closest uncle in my life. I felt broken inside and wanted to cry my eyes out. I could not believe he was gone out of our lives into a new world, he was a brother an uncle and the world to my family. But as I saw mom by his side crying, I knew that moment I had to push aside my feelings and show my mom I was strong in her eyes. At that moment I knew that I had to be considerate to my mom as she cried because I did not want to show a weaker side of me, but to let her know i’m strong enough not to cry by casting my feelings behind me. The character Cassia from Matched and Marin from “Geraldo no last name are both considerate through their actions and thoughts on not hurting others feelings

Cassia was just a normal girl who had just been matched to her best friend Xander. An example on how she is considerate is that she gains a microcard to see the interest her matched partner likes/dislikes but she also receives a paper from her grandfather that she cannot tell anyone even Xander. According to the novel, “I can’t tell Xander about Ky because Ky’s sitting right next to me, I think,and I can’t tell Xander about the paper because this place is too crowded”(Condie 87). According to the quote Cassia feels as if Xander would be upset at her for saying she saw him on the microcard but turns out to be Ky and feels she can’t say anything specific about the paper her grandfather gave her. Another example of how Cassia is considerate is when she found out her father lost the sample of her grandfather. “ My father nods, his face full of misery.Even though i’m angry with him for losing the sample, I can tell that he feels awful. Of course he does.This is grandfather in spite of my anger, I wish I could take papa’s hand,but there are too many officials around him”(condie 110). The quote shows that although Cassia is angry with her father, she knows he did not mean it and wanted to comfort him but she cannot disrespect the officials. Cassia was a normal teenage girl who recently got matched to her best friend Xander and everything was the way she hoped it would go until one day both Xander and Cassia see officials around Borough taking each and every artifact from each home and cassia was afraid of the officials taking away her artifact along with her brother Bram’s artifact from their grandfather so she walked as fast as she could so they would not take it away from them. An example from the novel was when Officials had the authority to take all artifacts” Can’t I try to hide it? Bram asks, He blinks and a tear escapes, he brushes it angrily, Will you help me? No Bram, I say gently. I wish I could but it’s too dangerous”(Condie 203). The quote shows that Bram was upset that the officials are taking the most important artifact that his grandfather gave him is now being taken away to a museum. As Bram feels torn he wants to hide it so no one could have it,but Cassia does not want her little brother to do something as risky and as dangerous for him to get in trouble with the officials as her risk has a limit. Furthermore, bram is torn and upset about what has happened, but Cassia show’s how considerate she can be towards her little brother who she does
