Over the summer I read the amazing novel Unwind by Neal Shusterman; this book was very enjoyable and had characters that I wish I could see them in other books, but one character really stood out to me. The character that changes throughout the book and became someone that I didn’t think he could become was connor. Connor was an unwind which made him as a character more unique and he constantly did not want to be unwound. He went on an amazing adventure that ends very well and unexpectedly. Connor was one of the characters who had a major role on how the book ends. Connor had many character traits but the few that stood out to me are that he is brave, caring, and clever. There was many more traits that I thought that were his finest but those …show more content…

Connor is a very caring character throughout the book. The first example that shows that Connor is caring is stated on page 61. It states, “It’s as they reach the sidewalk that a sound which has been too faint and too low-priority to care about suddenly snares Connor’s attention. The crying baby...Connor tries to move, but he can’t. It’s because of the baby. Because of the way it wails...Going against all sense of self-preservation, Connor bolts straight for the porch.” In this scene you can notice that Connor did take the baby. He did this because he felt bad for the baby when it was crying and he knew he could do something about it.He took the baby because he has trouble with storking in the past so he took the baby and Connor and Risa raised him on his own. Sure it made it harder for them to run away from the juvey-cops, but Connor knew it was right to take the baby with them. This is how I know Connor is caring. The second reason on how Connor is a caring character is stated on page 150-152. As stated in the text, “That’s when the door swings open, and over Roland’s massive shoulder Risa see’s Connor. ‘Connor! Stop him!’ … Connor pushes her off of him. ‘Didn’t you you warn me not to take the bait? He didn’t just follow you to the bathroom----he pushed past me first. He made sure I knew he was following you here. He wanted me to catch him. He wanted to make me crazy. So I didn’t take the bait.’ Risa shakes her …show more content…

I’ll show everyone what I found.’ Silence for a moment, then he sees Ronald’s silhouette as he climbs into the hold.” This quote explains why Connor is a clever character because he is using what he knows to get a something useful out of Roland, a pretty bad and untrustworthy kid. He wants something from him and he will get what he wants because Connor knows what to do in this situation. He knows how to get what he wants to help out friends, family, or a community. This is the first example that shows how Connor is a very clever character. The second reason that proves Connor is a clever character is stated on page 70. On this page Connor and his two friends, Risa and Lev, are trying to hide from the police. On page 70 it states, “‘ We’ll go in,’ says Connor. ‘We’ll hide in a place where there aren’t any security cameras. The boys bathroom. We’ll hide until lunch, then slip out with the rest of the kids going off campus.’” This quote really explains that Connor is clever because he thought, on the spot, to hide in the school’s bathroom where they could easily get kick out for trespassing. Although he is risking getting in trouble by the school, he is escaping the police who are after them. He could get caught and then the school calls the police and then they get into more trouble than they are already in. This is the second reason on why Connor is a risky
