The character in the Outsiders we are doing is Darry Curtis considered the “Though One” or “Muscles”. He is six-feet-two and the brother and keeper of Sodapop and Ponyboy Curtis. He is the oldest of the gang. He is smart and the only thing keeping him from being a Socs is being the guardian of his two brothers. He has to be the most responsible because if he doesn’t Soda and Pony will get taken to a boy’s home. Like his brothers, he's super smart and athletic. He's strong, principled, very serious, often grumpy, and can get violently angry. Pony tells us that before their parents died, Darry "had been real popular in high school; he was captain of the football team and he had been voted Boy of the Year" (1.81). Because he's so physically fit, the gang calls him "Superman" and "Muscles" and Darry doesn't get upset about it (7.45).
