As F. Scott Fitzgerald said, “Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy.” Francis from the book Heros by Robert Cormier is not a hero because he is suicidal, cowardly and he has a bad attitude. People might have a different opinion but, I think he isn’t a hero. In Heros, Francis is suicidal. He always wanted to die. One day, he went to the top of a church and was thinking about jumping off. Francis decided not to kill himself at a church and that war was a better idea. For example, he got into war and jumped on a grenade to “save people” but, really he was just finding a way to kill himself. It didn’t end up killing him, he just lost his face and now he thinks of himself differently. Finally, Francis was always depressed about something going on around him. When someone is depressed it can lead to suicidal thoughts. Francis started getting those suicidal thoughts. …show more content…

He lacked courage in the war, helping Nicole and when he wanted to kill Larry. Francis was cowardly in the war because he was only thinking of himself because it was his goal to commit suicide. When Larry raped Nicole, Francis was there. He was outside the door watching, he didn’t do anything to stop him or to help her. Later, he thinks it is his fault for what happened because he was there and didn’t say anything. Also, he waited for Larry to return to Frenchtown to murder him for what he did to Nicole. It was his mission because Francis was protective over Nicole. Finally, Larry returned and Francis went to see him. When Francis took out his gun out, Larry took his out too and Francis decided to put his down and leave. If I was Francis I wouldn’t of been so
