Of Mice and Men is a novel written by John Steinbeck. In this novel two friends and migrant workers, George and Lennie, face the hardships of The Great Depression. George and Lennie both share the dream of one day owning a ranch, and with the help of their new friend Candy their dream seems to be within reach. Things start to go downhill when Curley’s dog is shot, Lennie crushes Curley’s hand in a fight, and Lennie accidentally breaks Curley’s wife’s neck. In the end, George decides the best thing to do is kill his friend Lennie. Although the book did not end with the conventional happy ending, this is a positive aspect because Steinbeck truly captures the realities of life.
