The main symbol in The Hunger Games is the Mockingjay which comforts and helps Katniss during the Hunger Games. The mockingjays were a failed project of the Capitol, who was going to use them to spy on rebellious districts, and since then the bird is a reminder of the Capitols failure. Katniss says, "They're funny birds and something of a slap in the face to the Capitol". Before Katniss leaves to compete in the Hunger Games, the mayor's daughter, Madge, gives Katniss a pin that belongs to her. This pin was in the shape of a Mockingjay and is one of the first mentions of the bird in the book.
There isn’t only one definition for a hero, a hero has several qualities that make them just that: a hero. The Hero’s Journey can be used to tell a simple story or the most sophisticated soap opera. With having to overcome many near-death experiences, Katniss is able to prevail and become a victor. While Katniss is just a fictional character, people are still allowed to see her as a hero; I’m sure that Suzanne Collins had that in mind while writing her series. We need people that burn brighter than the sun to look up to, and the character, Katniss Everdeen, is considered to be one of them.

What makes katniss a dynamic character is her loving,caring, and brave characteristics throughout the book. katniss is a loving character who loves her family and others and did whatever it took to keep them well.katniss knew she was strong and would do better than everyone else from district 12.“I could be shot on the daily basis for hunting, but the appetites of those in charge protect me” (p.17)For the love Katniss have, she sacrifices her life for the ones she love.katniss doesn't forget the good things that happened in her life.:”kind people have a way of working their way inside me and rooting there”. Katniss and Peeta develop a complicated relationship throughout the novel, and conflicts of interests, plus the entire nature of their relationship can be can be easily scrutinized, once closely examined. From the beginning of the novel, Peeta goes out of his way to care for Katniss, and at one point suffers phsical abuse from his mother in order to feed her a loaf of bread. “The boy took one look back to the bakery as if checking that the coast 32 was clear, then, his attention back on the pig, he threw a loaf of bread in my direction. The second quickly followed, and he sloshed back to the bakery, closing the kitchen door tightly behind him.” (Collins 32).
She is also friendly and has a strong bond with her childhood friend Gale. She comes from the poorest district in Panem. That’s the reason she’s mostly poorly dressed. She is courageous and looks after her mother and sister, and later the little tribute girl, Rue. Katniss is strong and can be tough, although she is at times shy.
Katniss learns how to be more selfless and not let coming from district 12 define who she is and what she can do.
