Kirsha is described to be a poor man; not because his café does not make him enough money, but because he wastes all of his profits. He spent his money on his desire, and especially on hashish. He even sold hashish. The biggest of his problems was his affection and attraction to young men. Kirsha purchases a dozen pair of socks from a young salesman and leaves. Kirsha, however, keeps the boy in sight and waits for him until he leaves. He then approaches him and makes small talk with him. He finds out that the young boy is not married and invites him to his café. No one doubted his honesty and integrity about his faith, yet they knew that he mistreated his wife in order to satisfy his want for power. Then, it is revealed that Kirsha’s “weakness” (attraction to young men) is known in the alley. Kirsha is shown to be nervous, waiting for the boy to come, until he finally appears. Zaita is cripple maker, who lives in an apartment full of human bodies. He enjoys seeing Husniya hit Jaada during the day. At night, he sees them teasing each other. Zaita’s job began at night. He crippled people and turned them into beggars. Zaita hates Jaada but is jealous of him because he has a wife. He even hates everyone who hates him because of his bad smell and his job. The only people he loves are beggars, mostly because his parents were beggars. Zaita would walk around the neighborhood at night to collect a portion of the money of the beggars. One night, after collecting his money, he returns and sees Dr. Booshy and two men. These two men want to be beggars, and after initially refusing, he accepted the job. After telling her about his decision to join the British army and that he’ll make a lot of money, she starts feeling more enthusiastic about him and finally “agrees” with Abbas about buying a house. Abbas considers this a binding agreement for marriage. Then, Mrs. Kirsha visits Radwan and tells him about the argument that she had with her husband. He does not want to get involved in the problem, but he promises her that he will try to resolve this problem. Radwan talks to Kirsha, who stays respectful to Radwan because of his reputation, but he is angered about the fact that nobody minds their own business. He then explains that he is simply trying to help the boy because of his poverty. Radwan knows he is lying and advices him to lose the filthy habit. Kirsha then leaves the room, tired of Radwan’s lecture. Then, Kirsha does not return home for two nights, and his wife decided to plot revenge. She went into the café and insulted the young boy.
