Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world (Harriet Tubman). Throughout the novella, Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck displays that having a dream may impact one to make better choices. Steinbeck shows this through the motif of dreams, characterization, and imagery.
Title Goes Here George is overall a really good friend to Lennie. George may have his moments throughout the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck but his protectiveness towards Lennie, and loyalty show he truly is a good friend. George shows how protective he is for Lennie by constantly talking about him being an amazing farm hand (Steinbeck 22).
We have all had to sacrifice something to get to what we want, wether it was a good night sleep, a night with friends, or an actual friend. We have all experienced it in one way or another, but George made a sacrifice that cost him a lot. It cost him a friend, and someone else life. When he shot Lennie in the back of the head, George was sacrificing his only friend, and that friends life. He knew that Lennie would never be able to survive with the guys on the ranch chasing him and wanting to kill him.
It is important to make good decisions when in a problem. If someone is struggling to make a decision they should analyze their reasons and the outcomes of each option. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, a character named george has to make a tough decision that could affect his future. George was a worker during the Great Depression times in America and had a close friend names Lenny. Lenny was slow minded, but very strong physically.
The main reason George killed Lennie is because Lennie would have killed somebody again. And the evidence is clearly there, the pet mice that he killed, the poor puppy that he accidently hit to hard, and especially Curley’s wife. He almost killed the girl in weed if he had gone any further. The sad thing is is that he doesn't know how strong he really is, nor does he know what he’s done wrong in the first place.
Despite what hardships may come, you should always be there for a friend and do what’s best for them. In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George does just that for his best and only friend Lennie. Most guys like them don’t have friends, but they have a unique friendship where George acts as a brother to Lennie and tries to help him. They both share the same dream of owning a house, but George is forced to put it aside in order to do what’s best for his friend. George continually sacrifices his own happiness to take care of Lennie.
Jamison Seese Mr. Kelley English 9 February 9, 2023 Hopes and Dreams Do people's hopes and dreams, even those that may never come true help them to survive? The story of Of Mice and Men is about two friends in the 1930s, Lennie and George. They are migrant workers who have a dream like every other worker, they want to be independent. They want to live on their own farm and finally be in control.
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck illustrates a ranch in the 1930’s during the great depression where those who fit into mainstream society run the show, and those deemed “outcasts” are rendered useless. Steinbeck depicts characters with setbacks that diminish their value in the eyes of society, and contrasts them to characters that have no difficulties conforming to the norm. Crooks, being a black man isolated by his race, and Candy, a elderly man limited by his age and missing limb are examples of Steinbeck characters that experience hardships because of the differences. The poor treatment of Crooks and Candy by the other characters, and their chronic unhappiness in a place that doesn’t value them, comments on how
The definition of a sympathetic character is one whom the writer expects the reader to identify with and care about, though not necessarily admire. In the novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Curley’s wife, a main character in the book is blatantly portrayed as an unsympathetic character. This is because they only see her through the men's eyes, who only see her as a tiresome object, owned by her husband. Steinbeck’s portrayal of Curley’s wife is unfair and misogynistic because he only displays her as unintelligent and promiscuous, never has a character have a turning point where they realize she’s more than an object, and he never reveals her true name. The first reason that Steinbeck's portrayal of Curley’s wife is unfair is that he never gives Curley any redeeming personality traits, he only depicts her as unintelligent and promiscuous.
Love. That too is what Of Mice and Men is all about. Lennie and George, disparate types, are all against good reason, friends. They share a good dream. They love one another” (Scarseth 3).
The topic of the American drinking age has been a controversy since president Ronald Reagan passed the Minimum Drinking Age Act in 1984. The Minimum Drinking Age Act requires people to be 21 years old to legally purchase alcohol. The act was passed in order to end blood borders with states and lower the high drinking and driving fatality rates between the 18-20 year old age groups. Those who are against the current drinking age argue that it is too high and should be lowered to 18 because the United States has one of the highest minimum drinking ages in the world. I am for the current drinking age because it effects high school dropout rates, alcohol effects the development of an adolescent’s brain, and if lowered, there will be an increase
SETTING The book Of Mice and Men is set in two different places. It begins beside a stream, near to the Salinas River, which is a few miles south of Soledad, California. People back then did not understand what being mentally challenged was they would treat them like any other person which would make it hard on the person who had the challenges. The book Of Mice and Men is full of puzzling examples of the human condition, from Lennie and his mental disability to Curley only caring about his social appearance. With characters like these two, the book exploits the human condition that concerns circumstances life has given you. John Steinbeck brings to life what being a laborer in the American depression meant to the men and one woman who had enough personality to stand out. Steinbeck shows the human condition of men while they survive in the American depression.
