From anyone related to the rodeo industry or even just going through the motions of life, when it comes down to your “ride” it could mean life or death. For Luke in The Longest Ride, it meant exactly this. In this novel, it clearly relates to the title. Within rodeo as a whole, the sport is very dangerous whether you are a bull rider, barrel racer or roper. On top of the initial danger of being a bull rider, Luke was then facing a possibly serious traumatic head injury. The doctors told Luke that with the specialized metal plates being the only part covering the back of his skull that every time that he rode after that he would be risking his life. If Luke faced any type of head trauma he could end up in a wheelchair or even dead. At the …show more content…

Ira truly shows his unfeigned love for his wife and how she truly the love his life through the letters presented through the novel. In no way was Ira plodding his way through his life and relationship with Ruth. The novel’s content was always heartfelt and to the point of what he wanted to say to Ruth. Ira believed that “so we’re just going to work this out. And even if tonight we’re not getting along or there’s something between us that doesn’t feel right, you have the comfort of knowing, we’ve got time. We’re going to figure this out.” (Sparks 215). The way that Ira spoke to Ruth was in a way that is very special and unique ” “After all, if there is a heaven, we will find each other again, for there is no heaven without you.” (Sparks 416). The way that Ira went about the auction at the end of the novel was the end of the ride for Ira and Ruth but at the same time the beginning of Luke and Sophia. When Ira set up the auction to give whoever bought the sentimental painting (by Daniel one of Ruth’s former students) to give them the art collection in its entirety because of how much they value the simple things in life.
