Page 2: Character descriptions The antagonist and the protagonist in this story are Curely and George respectively. George: small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and strong features, strong hands, slender arms and thin bony nose. Is like the protector of Lennie, and saves him from every trouble he gets into.
Of Mice and Men might be an old story but it stays true to its theme of friendship and conflict. In Of Mice and Men it's really about two men, Lennie and George who are faced with lots of obstacles because of their outside appearances but internally they are very opposite to their body shapes from first glance. Lennies this big tough guy but on the inside he struggles from day to day life because of his mental disability. George is vice versa just because he is small doesn't account to anything George tends to want things his way and has more of a restricted personality but Lennie and George have something in common they both have each others backs like a true friendship. Steinbeck's “ Lennie, who had been watching, imitated George exactly.
One Major Character in Of Mice and Men: Candy can be seen as a major character in Of Mice Of Men by John Steinbeck. Candy is described the protagonist George as, “a tall stoop shouldered man, dressed in blue jeans..carrying a big push- broom in his left hand”(2.18-19) Candy can be seen as an essential character thought this story for a plethora of reasons. One reason as to why Candy can be seen as an essential character is because different from the other characters in many ways. , unlike all of the other characters in this story Candy is “stoop shouldered” hint at the fact that he’s old. It also states, that he has one hand “He pointed with his right arm, and out of the sleeve came a round stick like wrist.”

f Mice and Men Essay - Essays and Analysis Critical Context and Evaluation print Print document PDF list Cite link Link Of Mice and Men is one of the most widely assigned modern novels in high schools because of both its form and the issues that it raises. John Steinbeck’s reliance on dialogue, as opposed to contextual description, makes the work accessible to young readers, as does his use of foreshadowing and recurrent images. Equally important is the way in which he intertwines the themes of loneliness and friendship and gives dignity to those characters, especially Lennie and Crooks, who are clearly different from their peers. By focusing on a group of lonely drifters, Steinbeck highlights the perceived isolation and sense of “otherness”
Reece Rother Literary Analysis Of Mice and Men I think that Steinbeck, the writer, developed his theme in many ways. Many people believe that the theme is friendship, but friendship in this book results from loneliness. I believe that the theme of Steinbeck’s novel is that loneliness is the worst way to live. Evidence can back my claim through the examples of Candy’s reaction to his dog’s death and Curley’s wife’s persona.
From page one Lennie an George had plans of working to come up with there own money to buy a farm, which they would work on and live off the land. But Lennie and George’s plan changes when they are forced to run out of the ranch they originally worked on in Weed causing them to have to relocate to a Ranch in Salinas California where they’ll work bucking barley setting them on their way to a successful plan. When the plan seems closer the two hit a bump in the road when they meet the boss who believes that lennie should do the talking because he's a bigger guy, but because of lennie's condition he can't so George continued to do the talking and there almost canned before even getting the job.
A Common Purpose In the late 1920s during the Great Depression many ranchers fled westward to find work and to hopefully live the “American Dream”(A common theory that if you work hard enough you can live in your own house, white picket fence, green grass etc.). John Steinbeck, the author of the novella Of Mice And Men expresses a common purpose shared among his various characters, the “American Dream.” According to John Steinbeck the dream influences the characters and also expresses why the “American Dream” is destined to fail.
The novella Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck in 1937, is a book set in 1930s America, specifically in California. This story is fascinating in various facets, and I will explore one particular aspect throughout this essay. There were many characters throughout the novel who each had a dream, but many of these dreams were broken by conflicts due to other characters, the social context, setting, or some other factor. I think this can help us to understand what actually matters in life, and how the social context can change this.
“Life if full of challenges and yet more to come”. People had problems in life and some have solutions some don 't. In the story Of Mice and Men of the main character Lennie is mentally challenged. The story starts with a devastating moment where George and Lennie were kicked out of Weed due to Lennie’s mistake. Throughout the entire novel Lennie makes several mistakes which lead up to his own death by his buddy George.
Steinbeck’s character Crooks is the most important character from the novella, ‘Of Mice and Men’ because of the social message Steinbeck delivers through the hardship Crooks faces. Both the language and structural skills used to deliver the message Steinbeck greatly wants the people of the present and future to be aware of, is important in his (the author's) telling of Crooks’ past, present and the impacts it has on the characters views for the future. Of mice and men is set in 1930s America where racism was ever-present and not seen as highly offensive like it is in the world nowadays. Steinbeck makes this clear when Crooks is first mentioned in chapter two: “the stable buck’s a nigger” - Candy. There is a lot you can say about the attitudes
Literary Analysis – Of Mice and Men (Theme) John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men is a novel that illustrates the uninviting nature of human existence. This small novella from 1992 tells the story of two, improbable friends and their journey during the dark days of the Great Depression. Through out the story, the reader notices the isolation and loneliness that most of the characters face at least once in their lives. Mostly, the major themes reflect the American Dream, many of the characters’ broken plans and the dynamics of male friendship.
Collin Gerger Mrs. Lutrell English 11 5 February 2018 Out with the Old in with the New As a majority of people know and probably do, when something they have isn’t capable of working at its ideal performance, because of various reasons: outdated, broken parts, missing parts, etc, it gets discarded for a better version. Steinbeck depicts a character in this situation named Candy in his novella “Of Mice and Men.” Candy is an old handyman is labeled as a handicapped man due to an accident that resulted in the loss of his hand. While it may be seen as wrong to do this to a living organism, a human being no less, it was the way that Candy’s character was crafted that fit this situation.
We have read two books this year: ´Of mice and men´ and ´The curious incident of the dog in the night-time’. The books differ a lot, however they also share some similarities. ´ Of mice and men´ is about two men, named Lennie and George, who live in the time of the Great depression. They are looking for a job, but this isn’t easy because Lennie is mentally disabled so George needs to look after him the whole time.
There are many similarities between the three units we have went over so far and the book Of Mice of Men. I think the themes of all three units resemble the book Of Mice of Men a lot. The three themes are to not be afraid to get off the beaten path, to enjoy the view and to pack wisely, and to keep your eyes on the road and don’t feed the bears. The themes can be interpreted in many different ways, so I would like to show you how I interpret these themes in comparison with Of Mice of Men.
