From the beginning of the story, the author automatically epitomizes Mildred as a direct embodiment of the rest of the society: she overdoses, consumes a vast amount of mindless television, and is oblivious to the despotic and manipulative government. There are several anatomical and physiological differences between the rabbit eye and the human eye. One difference is the presence of a nictitating membrane, or third eyelid, in the rabbit. As this membrane slides horizontally across the eye, it is proposed that it aids removing and/or excluding irritating substances from the corneal surface. Another difference is the larger conjunctival sac in the rabbit, which allows for larger test volumes to be instilled, perhaps more than could be accounted for on accidental exposure. The rabbit cornea is thinner than that found in humans, and rabbits tend to have less tear production.

Neil Gaiman once wrote, “some books exist between covers that are perfectly people-shaped” (Gaiman xvi). The idea that books can be defined as the sharing of thoughts and information between people reveals a deeper meaning in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. In Fahrenheit 451, the protagonist faces a society in which books are censored and, thus, burned. This, according to his definition, means that if books become banned, certain connections between people will, too, be destroyed. Ray Bradbury reveals the theme (the importance of books) through the protagonist’s dynamic character, which comes as a result from his conflicts with society.
