Raymond's Run In the story “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara it describes the character of Squeaky who is a person who is true to herself. A short summary of the story Raymond's Run is there is a girl named Hazel. Her nickname is squeaky. Hazel has a brother named Raymond and he has some problems. She thinks taking care of her brother is a big responsibility. She is a runner she always runs. Many people in her neighborhood say that the is the fastest thing with two legs. There is a girl named Cynthia Procter who is very careful about her popularity that Squeaky hates. When Squeaky goes on her morning walks she hears Cynthia practice her scales on the piano over and over, but later at school Cynthia boasts that she doesn't practice at all and everything justs comes to her. On lines 199-200, pg 32 it says “I am not a strawberry. do not dance on my toes. I run.” This line implies that the character Squeaky is always herself. She doesn't believe in being a girlie-girl. She doesn't do what her mother likes. Another piece of evidence to support the idea of being true to yourself is through the character of Gretchen. Squeaky believes that Gretchen is a true runner, she doesn't hide that she is fast. On lines 385-390, page 39 it states “Cause she is good, no doubt about it maybe she’d like to help me coach Raymond; she is obviously serious about running, as any fool can see.
