In the novel, Full Cicada Moon by Marilyn Hilton, Stacey LaVoie, one of the characters may seem like a minor character, but she is very important to the story. I think that she demonstrates the following character traits; I think that she is carefree, and I think that she is friendly. You will find out why I think that way while reading my essay. Firstly, I think that Stacey is carefree.

Taylor, Stacey, a young boy of color, faces an internal conflict regarding whether Jeremy or T.J. would be the best choice of a friend for him. Throughout the narrative, Stacey presents that he understands that both Jeremy and himself would be safer if they stayed away from each other and that a friendship with T.J. would be completely accepted in that era. However, Jeremy would be the better choice for a friend for Stacey because he shows real respect for the entirety of the Logan family, he is honest when it comes to realizing his misconduct, and he proves to be much different than his racist family. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout, Calpurnia, and Atticus stand out when courage comes to mind. These characters show courage in many unique ways with different situations. In the early 1930s, in the deep south, racial discrimination was a huge conflict, for example, the Jim Crows Laws were in play, and it legalized segregation between blacks and whites. Courage isn’t always shown in situations, but simply throughout growing up.
What is courage? The dictionary defines it as, “the ability to do something that frightens one”. But the belief that someone is doing something to frighten another seems inaccurate. When first reading the book, most people would say that courage is displayed by those like Jem, Scout, Tom, or Atticus.
Thomas Aquinas once said, “There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship.” In the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Stacey should choose T.J as his friend. T.J would make the better friend because it is socially acceptable, he is able to give important information and finally because Jeremy's family has the power to falsely accuse Stacey of a crime. T.J is a much better choice for a friend because it is socially acceptable by the community. It is Christmas and Jeremy has just come to visit and papa is talking to Stacey about Jeremy and T.J.
Courage is Earned! Courage can't just be said it has to be shown. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Mr. L.T. Morrision is the most brave, loyal, and kind person you will meet. Mr. Morrison showed courage by standing to the Wallaces, he moved Kaleb Wallace's car off the road, and when he stayed with the Logans even though he could get hurt Mr. Morrison’s actions proved that he knows what is right and he is going to stand up for that no matter what. Even though his parents were killed by whites, he stays calm and knows exactly how to deal with the situation.
People that show courage in hard times know what could happen to them yet they act upon it to win a battle. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, many characters show true courage when they are under pressure or should not as they know something bad will happen to them. Mrs. Dubose, Atticus Finch, and Jem Finch all show courage and perseverance even though they know that something bad will happen to
